US traders can now trade regulated leveraged crypto futures through Coinbase Financial Markets

TL;DR

  • Coinbase Financial Markets (CFM) seeks to make futures more accessible to retail crypto traders.

  • CFM is pleased to announce that Coinbase Advanced customers in the US can now access regulated crypto futures contracts. These futures contracts are specifically sized for retail traders, at 1/100th of a Bitcoin and 1/10th of an Ethereum.

  • Futures provide traders with the ability to hedge their risk, diversify their portfolios, trade with leverage, and speculate on which way the market will go – either up or down.

    • Leverage in futures trading can work for you or against you. The risk of loss using leverage can exceed your initial investment amount.

  • Traders in the US can now use the Coinbase Advanced platform to access spot (through Coinbase Inc) and futures (through CFM)-- all through one integrated, secure, and easy-to-use platform.

In August, Coinbase Financial Markets, Inc. (CFM) received approval to bring federally regulated crypto futures trading to eligible US customers. And now, Coinbase Advanced customers in the US can trade leveraged crypto futures contracts through CFM. Learn more at coinbase.com/futures.

Access leverage, hedge risk, and diversify portfolios

How can traders use crypto futures in their portfolios? Futures contracts give traders the ability to seamlessly go long and short, so they can manage risk on their underlying crypto assets. Futures also give traders the ability to trade with leverage, which means that they can access the crypto market with less upfront investment.

CFM is making futures trading more accessible to a wider set of traders by:

Offering access to nano-sized futures contracts: traders have access to 2 futures contracts: BTC and ETH. At 1/100th of a Bitcoin and 1/10th of Ethereum, these contracts offer lower upfront capital requirements and can be an affordable investment option for a broader range of retail customers.

Offering a library of educational content: Coinbase Learn features a suite of articles that break down futures topics, from the basics, to the benefits and the risks. CFM is committed to continuing to equip traders with the resources they need to trade futures in a safe and responsible way.
